The review focuses on the biomass accumulation and habitat conservation depending on forest-growing conditions. It is shown that the ecological and biological characteristics of the pine, as well as forestry and taxation parameters of stands and their spatial structure, determine the intensity of ecosystem functions. The influence of pine formations' structural organization on air temperature, humidity, soil temperature, wind speed, precipitation, snowfall and snowmelt, as well as dust retention and environmental conditions in urban areas, is considered. The special attention is paid to the sanitary and hygienic role of pine forests due to their phytoncidal activity. It has been shown that the maximum values of oxygen production and carbon stock are typical for pine forests in low-lying, often swampy areas with minimal human impact. In contrast, in urban and suburban areas, there is a decline in most habitat-forming indicators.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Приведен обзор российских и зарубежных литературных источников, посвященных изучению средообразующих функций сосны обыкновенной (<italic>Pinus</italic><italic> </italic><italic>sylvestris</italic> L.), включая накопление биомассы, сохранение среды обитания, в зависимости от типа лесорастительных условий. Показано, что эколого-биологические особенности вида-эдификатора, лесоводственно-таксационные характеристики древостоев и их пространственная структура определяют интенсивность ключевых экосистемных функций. Рассмотрено влияние структурной организации сосновых формаций на температуру и влажность воздуха, температурный режим почв, скорость ветра, осадки, снегоотложение и снеготаяние, пылезадержание, а также на экологические условия в целом на урбанизированной территории. Особое внимание уделено санитарно-гигиенической роли сосняков, обусловленной фитонцидной активностью хвои и коры.
